Blocks have been proven to help children learn spatial reasoning. Additionally, they and help cultivate creativity and a healthy imagination.
Learning through play is a basic concept that is a constant throughout the four major educational approaches that we are familiar with (Froebel, Waldorf or Steiner, Montessori, and Reggio Emilia). While there may be some differences in what type of play is emphasized, the common theme is allowing children to discover through play.
Blocks are perfect in this way, in that children use their imagination to visualize a castle or a house, or a fort, or any kind of structure, then discover shapes and quantities, mathematical perception, spatial dimensions, physical laws, and much much more, as their imagined creations take shape.
Shapes are in standard measurement (1.5" x 1.5"). All HABA building blocks and systems are compatible with each other. Haba uses reforested solid natural, untreated beech wood.
